An Overview of the Christian Faith

Foundations is a nine-part overview of the teachings of the Christian faith.  For each session, there is a video of Pastor Mike Schmid teaching, along with a download of the session handout and the session slides.

This is the first session of "Foundations," a seven-part study of the foundational teachings of the Christian Faith at St. John's Lutheran Church in Napa, CA, led by Pastor Mike Schmid. In session one we look at the big picture of the Christian story. Every worldview has a story, an answer to these questions: How did we get here? What's wrong with the world? What is the solution? Where are we heading? The Christian story points us to the creation, the fall, redemption in Jesus and the resurrection hope. Foundations Session 1: The Story

This is the second session of "Foundations," a study of the foundational teachings of the Christian Faith by Pastor Mike Schmid at St. John's Lutheran Church in Napa, CA. Today's session, "God," focuses on the beginning of the Christian story, the creation. We also look at alternate worldviews, faith and science, how we learning about God, as well as the three-in-one nature of God.

Foundations Session 2: God

This session, "Humanity," focuses on the creation of humanity in the image of God, as well as the fall of humanity into sin. What does it mean that we are both beautiful and broken? We look at the biblical basis for this teaching, as well as how it addresses the issues of race, gender, marriage, sexuality and more.

Foundations Session 3: Humanity

This week’s session is entitled "Jesus Christ." We seek to answer these questions: Who is He? What did He do? What does it mean? We'll also be talking about the meaning of the gospel, being saved by grace through faith, and how this compares to other forms of modern spirituality.

This week we focus on the end of the Christian story, the return of Christ in glory and the resurrection and restoration that will happen at that time. We also spend some time exploring the reality of the resurrection of Jesus, and its centrality to the Christian faith.
